How the score and confidence work, and what to tune
    • Four estimates per daylight hour, each 0 to 10 = energy score × wind factor × tide factor; the score is their average. A: NOAA GFS Wave at the offshore reference point, direction-filtered and shifted by travel time. B: Météo-France MFWAM at a cell beside the spot. C: the NWS "Wave Detail" line, parsed and treated like A. D: the reference buoy's latest reading, shifted forward (next few hours only).
    • Face estimate = nearshore model height × a placeholder factor until three logged sessions at the spot, then your own median ratio.
    • Confidence: high when the estimates at the peak hour sit within 1.5 points, medium within 3, low beyond; one step lower when the buoy's aligned energy right now differs from the models by more than 2×.
    • Energy index = Σ direction credit × height² × period (metres, seconds). Lag from deep-water group speed over the straight-line distance. Wind: calm under the threshold; offshore, cross and onshore each have a tolerance. Tide: per-spot preference trims hours outside it.
